Running for a better future

On November 4th, Ben Gomilla will be running in the world famous New York City Marathon for One UPV USA.

“While I am running to accomplish a personal goal I am also running to help change the lives of the students in the Philippines who are not as fortunate as myself,” says Mr. Gomilla. “Which is why I have aligned my marathon with the One UPV Foundation. UPV aims to provide financial assistance and scholarships to students who want and need higher education but do not have the financial ability to afford it.”

ONE UPV FOUNDATION (USA) INC. is a a 501c3 scholarship organization based in New Jersey. One UPV Foundation (USA) Inc.’s mission statement “Give Chances and Change Lives” offers financial assistance to students in the University of the Philippines.

With an average acceptance rate of 16%, the University of the Philippines (UP) is one of the most difficult, if not the hardest, university to be admitted in the Philippines. Students who are accepted in the university are considered to be the “best in class”. Despite qualifying for admission and despite the subsidies for a discounted or free tuition, there is still a significant number of promising students that are unable to complete their education because of poverty. Without the financial support of a non-government organization, these students cannot sustain to pay the cost of living expenses in the university which on average amounts to $100.00 per month. For only $3.33 a day, you can make a difference in a student’s life. Your financial assistance will help one student with day-to-day expenses such as board and lodging, food, transportation, books, and school supplies.
