One UPV Foundation (USA) Inc. announces first scholarship recipients

One UPV Foundation (USA) Inc. is proud to announce the names of its first scholars. Two very well deserving students at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas.

Edmar D. Bandoja is a BS Accountancy junior year student from Tibiao, Antique. Edmar graduated valedictorian of his high school class in 2015. He was a UPV College Scholar during his freshman year and a UPV University Scholar during his freshman and sophomore years. Edmar is active with the Boy Scouts and regularly participates in GenMathling contests and other JPIA activities.

“Being an Accountancy student requires hard work and perseverance. The academic requirements increase as the year goes by. I plan to work at a banking firm as soon as I graduate and pass the board exam. I also plan to continue my studies and pursue Law after I finish the Accountancy course.”

Kim Jason M. Balino is a BS Accountancy junior year student from Midsayap Cotabato. Kim Jason graduated valedictorian of his high school class 2015. Kim Jason is very active with the UPV Capital Market Investors Guild, JPIA and various community service activities.

“Education is really important to me. I want to become a Licensed CPA and work at one of the Bluechip companies, particularly in Auditing. I also love Biology, Medicine and Teaching. I am planning that after maybe 5 years or more of practicing as a Licensed CPA, I can conduct a scientific discovery and research, engage in a biological or medical-related profession and later devote myself to teaching both accounting and biological studies.”
Edmar and Kim Jason both passed the assessment process established by One UPV’s board of directors in collaboration with the Dean of UPV’s College of Management, Ann Tupaz-Gumban. Each scholar received Php 25,000 from the Foundation to help alleviate some of the financial burden during the 1st semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. Like all applicants for the scholarship, Edmar and Kim Jason wrote deeply personal essays that described the many sacrifices and difficulties they and their families have to endure on a daily basis to pursue their education and the promise of a better life after they graduate.

In order to continue to receive the scholarship through graduation, both awardees must (1) Remain in good standing with the University; (2) Carry a load not lower than the prescribed number of units per semester; (3) Maintain an average of 1.75 GWA per semester as certified by the College Secretary; and (4) Must be available to participate in the scholarship activities as required by the Foundation.

The vision of One UPV is to remove poverty as a hindrance to a quality education. Please consider making a donation or sponsoring a scholar. Help us Give Chances and Change Lives. Support our scholars
