One UPV scholar graduates magna cum laude

One UPV Foundation (USA) Inc., and its board of directors, proudly congratulates its second scholar, Edmar Bandoja, for graduating magna cum laude this year with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas.

“Edmar’s accomplishments are very encouraging to our work as a foundation,” says Terry Brown, a board member of One UPV. “Our mission is to support educational opportunities for deserving but financially disadvantaged students. We truly believe a degree from UP can open more doors and potentially change the lives of our scholars and their families. Edmar truly worked hard and we are happy we were able to help him along the way.”

On top of graduating with honors, Mr. Bandoja’s list of accomplishments include:

  • Qualifying as a finalist (2019) and third runner-up (2020) in the CFA Institute Research Challenge (CFA IRC)

  • Ranking in the Top 25 and represented UP Visayas in the 21st Search for Outstanding Accounting Student of the Philippines (SOASP)

  • Team Captain of the UP Visayas team who placed 1st (7th place overall) in the Regional Qualifiers in the 21st Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) Intercollegiate Finance Competition (ICFC). He also represented UP Visayas as one of Top 20 Finalists in the ICFC Finals held at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Malate, Manila (November 22, 2019)

  • Outstanding Delegate, ASSET 2019 (November 7-11, 2019), with multiple awards, at the Accountancy Students’ Seminar and Extra-Curricular Training (ASSET)

Mr. Bandoja also held officerships with the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, Western Visayas Chapter (A.Y. 2019 – 2020) and with the University of the Philippines Visayas Capital Market Investors’ Guild (A.Y. 2019 – 2020).

One UPV will continue to support Mr. Bandoja through his CPA board exam reviews. The foundation is also currently accepting applications from potential scholars.
